Description: Learn basic woodcarving skills with a supportive artist/instructor. We will use simple hand tools and whittling/carving techniues to find form within a block of wood, and make our individual animals come to life. Emphasis will be on carving safety, as well as free expression and creative problem solving. We will finish by adding warmth and color to the sculptures with milk paints. At the end of the class, you will have transformed a block of basswood into a unique animal which will “stay” in your hand.
Instructor bio: Stan Peterson¹s approach to teaching is individualized to the skill level and interest of the students. He assists each person in finding their own voice through making art. He has taught drawing, relief printmaking, and woodcarving for more than 25 years to a wide variety of emerging and mid-career artists.
