Schedule: Saturdays, October 27 - December 1 from 10:00am - 12:00pm (6 sessions)

Level: Grades 5 - 8

Tuition: $100 Members / $125 Non-Members

Full Class Description:

This class will focus on hand building using, coil, pinch and slab techniques.  Projects will explore themes that provide a prompt that will be open for interpretations.  These prompts will help create open ended discussions with peers to inspire them to investigate new perspectives.  Students will have the option to make functional and sculptural works.  Students will learn the entire clay process from wedging clay, building and decoration.  Each finished project will go through the kiln for firing and glazing. Please bring a sketchbook and wear proper attire—some art processes can get messy and bring a healthy snack and something to drink! Footwear is required.

Parents may drop off their child in the lower parking lot by DMAC’s Ceramic department. All payments and registration forms must be fill out and turned into the front desk prior to the first day. All students must check out with the teaching artist before leaving with an adult.

Instructor Bio: Courtney is a lover of exploration, and clay is a perfect medium for constant discovery. Using slabs, Courtney often builds three dimensional boxes that construct into sculptural landscapes.  Her most recent focus has been on the potter's wheel.   Courtney has been a ceramic technician at Donkey Mill for three years. As technician, Courtney has expanded her understanding of chemistry through mixing glazes. Not only is Courtney passionate to share what she knows,  but she is always eager to learn from others no matter their age. 

Students should bring:
