Full description:
Participants will learn to make a variety of basic pop-ups in this hands-on workshop. We'll explore simple pop-up elements that by themselves or in combination can create surprising and delightful experiences. Each participant will make a number of one-of-a-kind pop-up greeting cards throughout the course of the evening. 

Donkey Mill Art Center’s Artist-in-Residence (AiR) program brings internationally-known artists to the Big Island of Hawaii to connect with our community through workshops, artist talks, and other activities.  This year’s AiR Program is made possible through generous funding from the Laila Twigg Smith Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation, the Hiroaki, Elaine and Laurence Kono Foundation and the Hazen Family Foundation.

Instructor bio:  Andrea Dezsö is a visual artist who works across a broad range of media including drawing, painting, artist's books, embroidery, cut paper, animation, sculpture, site-specific installation and public art. Dezsö's permanent public art has been installed in three New York City subway stations, at the United States Embassy in Bucharest, Romania and at CUNY BMCC Fiterman Hall in Lower Manhattan. Community Garden, Dezsö's mosaic in the New York City subway was recognized as Best American Public Art in 2007 by Americans for the Arts. 

Dezsö exhibits in museums and galleries around the world and teaches widely.  She currently serves as Professor of Art at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA and maintains studios in NYC and in Western Massachusetts.

Supply fee includes:

  • Astrobright multi-colored paper in two weights
  • glue stick
  • bone folder
  • graphite pencils

Students should bring:

  • Good quality scissors
  • Markers, colored pencils, collage materials
  • Optional: Utility knife
  • Optional, for those who bring utility knives: Self healing cutting mat
