EMERGENCE

noun

Young artists of the Donkey Mill are the stars of this exhibition featuring dynamic works from talented students from ages 6 to 16. As art and artmaking for youth is all about exploring relationships to self, family, local and global community, and nature, the works reveal these emerging connections. This exhibition reflects these connections and the themes explored in each art class: a deepened understanding of Hawaii’s native species, the ‘āina and the ocean, cultures near and far visited by the voyaging canoe, Hōkūle‘a, as well as the knowledge held in moon phases and the cycles of nature. Working with diverse media ranging from clay to kapa, and woven textiles to paper sculpture, bookmaking, painting and drawing, the works in this exhibition capture the connection and creativity of these brilliant young artists.

This exhibition and programs are made possible by the Atherton Family Foundation, Kukio Community Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation, Roberts Foundation, the Mary Silverwood Fund and our community of individual donors.

Donkey Mill Art Center is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 78-6670 Mamalahoa Highway in Hōlualoa.
